Alpen Glass Exceeds Expectations for Efficiency, Comfort and Daylight in David and Lucille Packard Foundation

January 2015-

A stunning photograph of the David and Lucille Packard Foundation Living Building Certified net-zero energy building graces the cover of this winter’s High Performance Buildings magazine, accompanied by a wonderfully-written 10-page article about this architecturally appealing, exceedingly efficient new commercial building enveloped with a shell of Alpen’s high performance suspended film insulating glass.

The article lead-in praises the building’s design, noting that now, 2 years after project completion, the building still exceeds net-zero energy performance, and has achieved 97%+ occupant satisfaction.

Alpen Inc. founder and high performance glass innovator, Robert Clarke – now leading Robert Clarke & Associates consulting firm – began work on this stunning Living Building Challenge Net-Zero Energy certified building in 2010 and played an integral role in designing the building’s advanced-insulating glass shell that contributes so heavily to it’s achievement of daylight-driven design.

The final installation of Alpen glass included directionally-tuned suspended film glass in 5 configurations with low U-factors, and high solar control and visible light transmission performances.  Through the use of suspended coated films, Alpen’s glass incorporated laminated and custom ceramic fritted glass lights into the glass “sandwich” without penalty to its performance.

Praise to the architectural and energy efficiency design teams as well as all contractors, builders and innovators who collaborated to create such a masterfully executed, beautiful, net zero energy commercial space.
