AlpenGlass is a leader in advanced glazing solutions, specializing in custom thin triple- and quad-pane IGUs. With over 40 years of experience manufacturing lightweight, high-performance glass with suspended coated film, Alpen was the first in North America to commercialize thin glass for architectural use. To date, we have delivered millions of square feet of thin glass to the market.
Alpen customizes configurations through thermal modeling to meet the specific glazing needs of your window or project, whether for windows, doors, curtainwalls, or storefronts.
Key to Glass Configuration Table:
Nominal Thickness (OA)
Standard thickness for industry reference (inches)
Configuration
TGT (Triple Glazed Thin glass) or QGT (Quad Glazed Thin glass)
Outer / Inner LoE
Low-Emissivity coating types: Cardinal LoE-180 (1), LoE²-272 (2), LoE³-366 (3)*
Glass Thickness
Thickness of each glass pane: Outer-Middle-Inner (mm)
GasGas Fill (GF)
Insulating gas mixture: % Krypton / % Argon / % Air
U-Factor
Main Table - Center-of-Glass thermal transmittance (Btu/h · ft² · °F)**
SHGC
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (fraction of solar radiation admitted)
VT
Visible Transmittance (fraction of visible light transmitted)
* Other low-emissivity coating manufacturers and types are available
** Lower U-Factor indicates better insulation performance
Additional Notes:
1. Configurations shown are based on 0.5mm thin glass.
2. Options up to 1.3mm are available U-Factor, SHGC, and VT are calculated for center-of-glass area only, not including frame effects.
3. Performance values may vary slightly based on specific product configurations and testing methods.
Outer glass includes internal and external panes of glass. They can be customized to meet the needs of your project.

Thin glass (0.5mm – 1.3mm) is thinner than traditional float glass and is positioned in the middle of the assembly. By adding extra lites of thin glass, the convection cycle is interrupted, reducing heat transfer without compromising visual light transmittance or adding additional weight.
Inert gases significantly improve energy efficiency by filling the space between panes, reducing heat transfer. Alpen designs custom gas blends to meet specific performance targets, and our gas containment system ensures performance stability at varying elevations.
Argon: Inert, colorless gas that improves insulation and is cost-effective for widespread use.
Krypton: Denser noble gas offering superior insulation, ideal for thin IGUs or high-performance windows.
Spacers fix the gap between glass sheets, crucial for both thermal insulation and overall unit performance.
Variety of warm edge spacer options for industry-leading whole-unit thermal performance
The Kodispacer TPS spacer is a top of the line spacer system that is tested to 30+ year durability
Compatible with 3/4" – 2 1/4" glass pockets, sizes up to 72" x 108"
Quad-pane solutions as thin as 1”.
