Maine Deep Energy Retrofit

The Deep Energy Retrofit House in Maine underwent a transformation with a goal of achieving Net Zero Energy. New windows, dormers, doors, and porches opened the home to the south and the surrounding 10-acre property, enhancing views and natural light. The renovation minimized the home's footprint and improved groundwater flows by relocating the guesthouse/studio. Sustainable materials and native plant species were used, while a new bio-swale controls water runoff. The super-insulated exterior, low-energy heat pumps, and heat recovery air exchangers ensure year-round comfort. LED lighting reduces energy use, and rooftop PV panels, supported by a wood-fired stove, provide power and heat, with solar tubes supplying hot water.
